The following subjects will be subject to multiple choice examination:

  • Plant Safety
  • Maintenance
  • Mathematics

The applicant must meet one of the following requirements either by experience or academic preparation to apply for the exam.

Category Experience Academic Preparation
Operator I High school diploma or its equivalent and one (1) year or more of experience under the supervision of a licensed operator certifying the tasks the applicant has performed under his/her supervision in the operation of drinking water or wastewater treatment systems or plants, as applicable. N/A
Operator II High school diploma or equivalent and one year or more experience working with Operator's License I. Thirty (30) credits in natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics) or engineering or combination thereof, from a post-secondary institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education. Any applicant who wishes to have his or her college education considered must submit with his or her application an original transcript of credits certified by the college or university where he or she completed his or her studies.
Operator III High school diploma or equivalent and one year of experience or more working with Operator's License II Associate's degree in the field of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics) or engineering or a combination of these, from a post-secondary institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education. Any applicant who wishes to have his or her college education considered must submit with his or her application an original transcript of credits certified by the college or university where he or she completed his or her studies.
Operator IV High school diploma or equivalent and one year or more experience working with Operator's License III. Bachelor's degree in the field of natural sciences (biology, chemistry, physics or mathematics) or engineering or combination thereof, from a post-secondary institution accredited by the Council on Higher Education. Any applicant who wishes to have his or her college education considered must submit with his or her application an original transcript of credits certified by the college or university where he or she completed his or her studies.
